Anatourgasse
1130 Hietzing
Anatourgasse (Auhof; housing estate in the former Lainz Game Reserve), named in 1955 after the actress and soubrette Marie Anatour (1857–1929).
Marie Anatour (1856–1929) was an Austrian actress and soubrette who began performing on stage as a child. The daughter of theater director Wilhelm Anatour, she grew up in a well-known theatrical family and appeared early on in northern Bohemia and Saxony. From 1869 onward, she built her own career with engagements in Pilsen, Temesvar, Berlin, Graz, and later at Vienna’s Carltheater and the Theater in der Josefstadt. In Breslau, she held a leading position from 1895 before shifting from soubrette roles to portraying middle-class mothers and comic elderly women. In 1893, however, she returned to Vienna and reintroduced herself as a soubrette at the newly founded Raimund Theater, where she remained until at least 1902. She spent her final years in poverty in Merano.
I went to Anatourgasse on March 5th 2025. It was strange passing by the house my Dad and his family used to live in on my way there via tram. The weather was beautifully sunny and I enjoyed my walk in the neighborhood a lot.
