Am Tabor
1020 Leopoldstadt
Am Tabor, unofficially named before 1830, officially in 1890 after the name of a tabor built in the 15th century elsewhere (near Gaußplatz in the 20th district) for defense against the Hussites, a fortification that also served as a toll station on the bridge over the unregulated Danube.
The name was transferred in 1698 to the new tabor constructed here with the same function (the toll house at Am Tabor 2, corner of Taborstraße 80, still exists; around 1830, the imperial and royal toll house was located in another building directly on today’s Alliiertenstraße). Am Tabor street was extended by four blocks to Ernst-Melchior-Gasse in 2008 and 2013 in the Nordbahnhof urban development area.
December 2nd 2024 was a beautiful day and I had a good time exploring "Am Tabor", which offered a variety of motives, even a gruseome one of a sparrowhawk eating a pigeon. Unfortunately one of the films I shot didn't rewind properly, which resulted in a few lost pictures and some light leaks. I find those rather intriguing though.
