Am Schöpfwerk (Altmannsdorf, Inzersdorf), named in 1912 after the pumping station of the local ice works. Ice works harvested natural ice in the winter, stored it, and – before the invention of refrigeration machines – supplied breweries, restaurants, households, dairies, and similar customers with ice blocks for cooling purposes. This water pumping station also gave its name to the two residential complexes at Am Schöpfwerk in the municipality of Vienna, built between 1951 and 1957 and between 1976 and 1980, the former designed by Franz Schuster, the latter by a team led by Viktor Hufnagl. The path was previously called Inzersdorfer Weg because, as seen from Altmannsdorf, it led there.

My lovely friend Vera accompanied me on this walk on October 26th 2024. She lives not too far away and we had a very nice stroll, she brought coffee in a thermos to warm us up. So happy to have her in my life.
