Am Hof, mentioned as a market place in 1340, after the former court of the Babenbergs. The square had already been part of the Roman military camp Vindobona and was uninhabited in the early Middle Ages. From 1155 until the extinction of the male line of the Babenbergs in 1246, their court was located here, which Heinrich Jasomirgott, the first Duke of Austria since 1156, built as his residence in 1155/1156, a complex of houses around an open space – a court – with the Duke’s house as the center. The Habsburgs, who were granted Austria in 1276 and actually ruled here after their victory over Ottokar II Přemysl, used this residence until around 1280.

I first went to "Am Hof" on October 3rd, together with a friend, but my Minolta X300 camera gave up the ghost so we just went to have a Punschkrapfen at Aida. I returned two days later and enjoyed strolling around and taking photos a lot. I love taking pictures in touristy areas as you kindof become invisible to other people while taking photos, everyone thinks you're a tourist.
