Alois-Kraus-Promenade (Hietzing, Lainz), named in 1955 for civil servant and manager Alois Kraus (1840–1926); he was director of the Menagerie Schönbrunn from 1879 to 1919. Under his leadership, the animal population peaked at 3,442 animals of 712 species. Kraus converted the zoo from a menagerie that served merely as a courtly show to an institution that served science and popular education. The path at the foot of the grove on the Küniglberg was previously called Promenadenweg.
