Alberichgasse
1150 Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus
Alberichgasse (Fünfhaus) was named on September 17, 1912 after the dwarf Alberich, a figure of Germanic mythology who appears in the Nibelungenlied, among other things. The first component Alb- means “Elb” or “Nature Spirit”. The second component -rich comes from the Germanic -rik and means “ruler, prince, king”. Alberich guards the Nibelungenhort and can make it invisible by means of a stealth. Siegfried is able to steal his cap of invisibility and thus comes to the treasure of the Nibelungs. The alley is part of the Nibelungenviertel.
I photographed Alberichgasse on April 19th 2020. At that time I didn’t know that I had photographed the house into which my then partner would move to after leaving me half a year later. Life is funny sometimes and I often wonder what else that marks something of future importance I’ve already photographed.
