Ailecgasse, named on May 12, 1975 after Josef Ailec. Ailec was born on March 18, 1874 in Lastomerzen near Oberradkersburg, Slovenia and died on September 17, 1944 in Vienna. Josef Ailec learned woodcarving and served at the eighth Rifle Battalion. From 1898 to 1902, promoted by officers, he was enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts. There he studied with Edmund Hellmer and Eduard Bitterlich and attended the special school with Carl Kundmann until 1906. Ailec settled in Simmering in 1908. He created the Way of the Cross and the baptismal font for the Simmering parish church on Enkplatz, which was then under construction.
